New Moon @ 4 degrees of Libra

If we have no peace, it is because we have forgotten
that we belong to each other.  ~Mother Teresa

What might it mean that “we belong to each other?” I imagine today’s new moon is helping us discover the subtlety in this statement.

Sometimes, in our most intimate relationships, the lines blur between what we call ‘love’ and so many other concepts—possession, obsession, passion, fear of being alone, a need to be seen in couple-dom, a need to feel in control, and even the simple lack of inertia required to move on. If we allow ourselves to fall into complacency, the word ‘love’ can become dull and meaningless.

I understand that trusting another with our heart is the most risky and difficult thing we ever do while we inhabit these human costumes. But the Universe is constantly helping us refine the way we move through our lives, and today and tomorrow, we are being directed by a new moon in Libra, pointing out for us where we might have become more concerned with the appearance of the thing than the truth of it … and then helping us to navigate our way back into a kind of balance which may not have known before.

As is always true, this moon is not working alone. This particular community of planets is a challenging one—the moon is quincunxing Neptune and Chiron, opposing Uranus and exactly squaring Pluto—and these combined energies seem more interested in shaking us to our foundation than in stroking our heads and reassuring us that all is well. As this moon’s companions seek balance, they are requiring us to look carefully at who and what we trust and lending us the courage and the spunk necessary to reinvent how we respond to that which no longer nourishes us.

Could it be that “we belong to each other” because, as Bob Marley said, we are all One Love? And is it possible that all the tutorials we receive in our human partnerships are refining our sense of what it means to move more and more toward an understanding of love which is still just a little ahead of our experience?

May we continue to navigate this balancing act with courage and kindness,
